OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134 requires employees to be medically cleared and fit tested before wearing a respirator. We come to your facility, office or jobsite to train employees how to properly use a respirator.

A fit test is conducted to determine whether a respirator can be donned without risking any leaks. It can only be taken by an employee once they have been medically approved to wear a respirator on the job. If an employee’s job responsibilities require them to wear a tight-fitting respirator, they must undergo a respirator fit test beforehand. The test must be done using the same size, model, and design of the respirator they’ll be wearing on the job.

PFTS offers two methods for respirator fit testing:

Qualitative Fit Test: Uses the sense of taste to a test agent (Bitrex or Saccharin) to detect any leakage into their respirator.
Quantitative Fit Test: A machine is used to measure leakage into the respirator.
